Child Care

Although Lib* and myself are yet to make a decision on the subject of child care, Lib* decided to do a ring around to see what options are out there for child care.

At this stage our intention is for Lib* to take a year off, look after the kid, finish the degree and paint the house. Beyond that, though, getting Lib* back into the social and fiscal scene of a work environment is our main point of interest right now.

If you thought the Russian bread queue disappeared with the demise of the USSR then wow, you need to move to Canberra and start expecting a kid.

The little unit is not even born yet and apparently we on the thin side of timeliness if we were looking for baby care spots for a six month old. Bear in mind that from today, that's about nine months away.

The way it's all described is pretty cute. The lady, Karen, asked how old the child is and was happy when I said it wasn't yet born as supposedly this is the perfect time to put it down on a waiting list! She then informed me the baby's room is full and there is a lengthy waiting list. However, some of the babies will graduate to the next room some time during the next year which will bring some spaces but they will call when a space is available to interview me/us. Surely this is the tail wagging the dog!

Graduate. How Cute! I didn't "Graduate" until I was nearly 22! I think I'm a bit leery about having a kid who can't even walk yet being looked after by a complete stranger, but at the same time I know I associate with some people who even I wouldn't be left alone with.

We'll work it out. We have to.
